The embroidery takes place on a machine overseen by a skilled operator who manually changes threads each time the color changes. After the stitching is completed, it takes about two hours for each pillow to be expertly hand sewn and finished with care, along with additional time to sew up each pal. .

Coral & Tusk's Stephanie Housley first creates her scenes as original pencil drawings before she painstakingly redraws them stitch by stitch using special computer software. Finished by hand in Coral & Tusk's Brooklyn studio, every machine-embroidered pillow retains the story-telling spirit and hand-drawn allure of the original illustration.
